I have recently gone to trying a Baofend f8-hp+. Broke the screen but after a trip to yaesu, radio has workeed fine ever since. Shortly after I bought it, I dropped it from a 50' tower. HT's, I went to a yaesu vx7 which has lasted good. Split design for easy radio mounting, something that comes into play on modern bucket seat cars. Dual band, crfoss band, aprs, with a control head that is easy to read, lites up at night, has an auto dimer features that reduces brightness at night, the button commands are on the screen. Bottom line, bite the bullet, get the best that you can afford, you will save money in the long run. Quickly converted back to a Kenwood d700.

None of the buttons lite at night so working the radio, took a flashlight. Got a yaesu 8900, bad design and totally dangerous at night.

Radio is still going so thazt says something for Kenwoods longevity. Years ago, I started with a kenwood 7400.
